Privacy policy

Bag Guy helps people find grocery deals, scan receipts, and earn Bag Points. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect only what we need to run the app, we never sell your personal data, and we never share your SNAP status with advertisers.

Information we collect

Information you give us

Account information: your email address, a display name if you choose one, and your password (stored only in hashed form).
Receipts: photos of receipts you choose to scan and the text we read from them, such as the store, date, items, prices, and total.
Your lists and preferences: shopping lists, saved offers, and settings, such as turning on the SNAP-friendly filter or entering a weekly budget.
Messages: what you type into in-app assistant features, and messages you send to support.

Information collected when you use the app

Location, only if you allow it: used to show nearby stores and deals. You can turn location off at any time in your iPhone's Settings.
Usage and device information: such as the features you use, app version, device type, and diagnostic information, so we can keep the app reliable and secure.
Bag Points activity: the scans and actions that earned points, so we can keep an accurate balance and prevent fraud.
Purchase status: if you buy a membership in the future, we receive confirmation of the purchase and subscription status from Apple. We don't receive your full card number.

What we don't collect

Bag Guy never asks for your EBT card number, your PIN, or your state benefits login, and we don't connect to your EBT account.

How we use information

To run the app: show deals, read receipts, keep your lists, and track Bag Points.
To show deals and stores relevant to your area.
To prevent fraud and abuse, such as duplicate or altered receipts.
To provide support and respond to your requests.
To improve Bag Guy's performance, reliability, and features.
To send account and service messages. We'll ask before sending marketing messages, and you can opt out at any time.

Receipt reading and AI features

To read a receipt, Bag Guy may process the photo on our own servers, or, with your permission, send it to a third-party text-recognition service (for example, Amazon Textract or Mindee) that returns the text to us. In-app assistant features, such as meal and recipe ideas, may send the text you type to an AI service provider to generate a response. These providers process information on our behalf to provide the service. We don't permit them to sell it, and the app asks for your permission before sending receipt photos to an outside service.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your SNAP status, receipts, or shopping history with advertisers. We share information only:

With service providers that help us run Bag Guy, such as hosting, receipt text recognition, AI assistant features, email, and payment processing, under agreements that limit how they use it.
In summarized or de-identified form that can't reasonably be used to identify you.
If required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and Bag Guy.
As part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case this policy will continue to apply to your information.

Affiliate links

Some links in Bag Guy or on this website may be affiliate links. When you tap one, the store or service you visit may learn that you came from Bag Guy. We don't send them your name, email, receipts, or SNAP status. Once you're on another company's site, its own privacy policy applies. See our affiliate disclosure.

How long we keep information

We keep your information while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your personal information from our active systems, as described on our account deletion page. Limited records may be kept in de-identified form, or where we must keep them for legal, tax, or fraud-prevention reasons. Copies in backups are removed as those backups are replaced over time.

Your choices and rights

Access and correction: you can view and update your account information in the app, or ask us for help.
Deletion: you can delete your account. See Delete your account.
Location and camera: you can turn these permissions on or off in your iPhone's Settings.
Marketing: you can opt out of marketing messages at any time.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under state privacy laws. To make a request, email support@bagguyapp.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

Security

We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information, including encrypted connections and hashed passwords. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.

Children

Bag Guy is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll update the date above and let you know in the app or by email before the changes take effect.
