Where to shop

How to find stores that accept SNAP, in person and online

Supermarkets, corner stores, farmers markets, and online grocers can all accept SNAP if they're authorized by USDA. Here's how to find them, and what to watch for when you shop online.

Use the USDA SNAP Retailer Locator

USDA runs a free, public SNAP Retailer Locator that maps stores authorized to accept SNAP EBT.

  1. Open the Retailer Locator and enter your address, city, or ZIP code.
  2. Browse the map or list of nearby authorized stores.
  3. Check the store type. Supermarkets usually carry the widest range of foods; convenience stores may be closer but pricier.
Call ahead. Store lists change as stores open, close, or change ownership. If a trip is a long one, call to confirm the store still accepts EBT.

Shopping online with SNAP

According to USDA, SNAP online purchasing is now available in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. A few things to know:

  • Only eligible food can be paid with SNAP. Delivery fees, service fees, convenience fees, and tips can't be paid with SNAP benefits. You'll need another payment method for those, or choose free pickup if the store offers it.
  • You'll still need your PIN. Online EBT payments use secure PIN entry, just like at the register.
  • Delivery depends on your ZIP code. Check the store's own website to see if it delivers to you.
  • Pay on the store's site, not through a middleman. Enter your EBT card only on the checkout page of the store or service you're buying from.

Farmers markets

Many farmers markets accept SNAP. Some have a central booth where you swipe your EBT card in exchange for market scrip. Some also offer extra value when you buy fruits and vegetables with SNAP. Look for farmers markets in the Retailer Locator, or ask the market manager.

What "stocking standards" mean for you

Stores must carry a variety of staple foods to be authorized for SNAP. USDA has updated these stocking standards, with new requirements taking effect November 4, 2026, so some stores may change what they carry, and the list of authorized stores may shift. One more reason to call ahead.
